The celebration of his life will be on the family homestead located at 1399 American Way. Lunch will be served after the ceremony. If you wish to attend please RSVP at agsailor@msn.com. Those wishing to honor him and his love of life are encouraged to attend and share their memories.
Born Dec. 30, 1939, in Anderson County, Ken., Capt. McMichael retired from the Navy after 26 years as an intelligence officer.
He finished his career as commanding officer of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service unit for the western region encompassing 11 states.
He retired after working 12 years from Lockheed Martin in Santa Clara.
Having traveled all over the world and visited many ports of call including a period in Asia, Capt. McMichael always said "he was going to drag his anchor inland until someone asked him what it was and that would be where he dropped anchor finally." He chose Douglas County because of the wonderful vistas and the ability to see 100 miles on a clear day much like being at sea. In a way living in a "sea of sage" held the same tranquility for him.
The family has owned the property in Douglas County since 1989 and they moved into their home in 1992. In 2002, Capt. McMichael designed the addition to the existing structure and recently finished the renovation to the older house. During construction he acted as owner builder and built his dream home.
Capt. McMichael is survived by his wife of 45 years, Valida; three children, Valida Dawn, Shawn, and Shannon McMichael; his mother, Mrs. Frances Bayer of Louisville, Ken.; a brother and four sisters, who also reside in Kentucky; five grandchildren, Joshua Webster, Branden Ward, Julia McMichael, Valida Kaye IV Ward, and Gillian McMichael; and several nephews and nieces.
The family is requesting live plants instead of cut flowers for his memorial. Donations may be made to support 100-percent disabled veteran's organizations in Capt. McMichael's name.
