The 2008 school year just ended but the preparations for the fall sports season are already under way.
Most of the fall athletic teams at Douglas High have put together a summer workout schedule with voluntary practices leading up to the official start of practice in August.
A drug, alcohol and tobacco awareness presentation is scheduled at the high school on Aug. 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the high school commons.
Practice for football officially starts Aug. 14 and the rest of the sports start tryouts and practice on Aug. 18.
A parent, administrators, coaches and athletes meeting is scheduled for Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school commons.

Official practice begins Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. at Genoa Lakes (Lakes course) and will run from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. For more information, contact coach Steve Gustafson at sgustas@dcsd.k12.nv.us.
Open conditioning begins Aug. 4 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the high school weight room and runs every weekday through Aug. 15.
Tryouts begin Aug. 18 and run through Aug. 20 with morning sessions from 10 to 11 a.m. and afternoon sessions from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m.

Workouts begin July 28 and will be Mondays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Douglas tennis courts.
Satellite tournaments (register through blta.usta.com) are encouraged, as is enrolling in the Douglas County Parks & Recreation tennis clinics (call 782-9828 for more information).
Once official practices start in August, practices will run every weekday from 8 to 10 a.m.
Starting Aug. 20, practice will shift to the afternoons from 3 to 4:40 p.m.

Open gyms are scheduled at the high school for June 13 (9 to 10:30 a.m.); June 16 (8 to 9:30 a.m.); June 20 (9 to 10:30 a.m.); June 23 (8 to 9:30 a.m.) and June 27 (9 to 10:30 a.m.)
The team will conduct beach volleyball sessions throughout July on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. starting July 7 at Zephyr Cove.
Open gyms resume Aug. 5 (9:30 to11:30 a.m.) and two-a-days start Aug. 11 with sessions at 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Tryouts are Aug. 18, 19 and 20 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
