It's going to be smoky today before 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Then the winds will come up and clear out the smoke, which is coming from several California wildfires in the Sierra and further West. The Northern California Lightning Series is a collection of dozens of fires started at about noon on Friday. From the smoke plume monitor it looks like the whole state of California is on fire. The smoke may have prompted a false alarm east of Topaz Lake early this morning.

A 50-year-old woman, who admitted embezzling more than $150,000 back in 2005 is scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court for a probation violation. Robin C. Ecklund faces up to 10 years in prison, should Judge Michael Gibbons decide she isn't making an effort to pay $750 a month restitution.

A California man faces three years in prison this morning for probation violation. Clemente G. Torres was sentenced to probation in November 2006 after he went on a joy ride in a stolen car. Torres reportedly drove down Highway 50, ignoring traffic lights and crosswalks in April 2006.

There was an injury accident at Highway 50 and Elks Point Road at 4:52 a.m. No information is available on the extent of the accident.
