A-American Self Storage, a California-based family-run self storage company, is demanding an apology from phone book publishers who listed the Gardnerville location in a risque section of the local yellow pages.
Verizon's 2007-08 Western Nevada- Carson Valley phone book shows A-American Self Storage, 1220 Venture Drive in Gardnerville, as the first listing under the Entertainment-Adult category, right before the Bunny Ranch brothel.
A tenant brought the mis-listing to the attention of the manager at the Gardnerville facility.
The mistake has been duplicated in another phone book, the Carson 2008 Telephone Directory, published by Tahoe Telephone Directories.
In a press release, A-American officials say they contacted Verizon and were offered a $504 ad as compensation for the mistake.
"What we do want is an acknowledgment that a mistake was made, as well as an apology for allowing it to be published," said A-American President Craig Olson. "We want it in writing that A-American is not engaged in, nor connected with these types of businesses, and that Verizon Yellow Pages, etc., will apologize for any confusion arising out of such a mistake. We just want our name and excellent reputation cleared."
Charlsi Thomann, public relations officer for Idearc Media, which publishes the Verizon Yellow Pages, said they were in the process of reaching out directly to A-American.
"This should not have occurred," she said. "We are working with everyone involved, including sources who supply all phone book publishers with phone numbers."
