The weather wasn't real cooperative with the Spring Fling participants, bringing some showers and strong breezes. Hopefully, the vendors did well and the shoppers enjoyed themselves. The winners of the two big raffle prizes were Edie Maxey, who won the $250 Visa gift card and Linda Penfield, winner of a sterling silver and turquoise necklace donated by Out West Gallery. Congratulations, ladies.
From all reports, the ATV Jamboree was a big success. There was a total of 32 riders who totally enjoyed themselves. The flowers along the trails are in bloom, and people enjoyed stopping along the way and getting some great pictures of the, as well as the rest of the beautiful scenery. The chamber of commerce is already planning for their next jamboree.
The luau dinner Saturday evening was attended by approximately 80 people, who were treated to a wonderful dinner and a lot of good company.
Transit service in the valley
A meeting will be held at the Walker Senior Center on Tuesday, July 1, 1 p.m., to advise us all of changes in the local bus services that are being made by Eastern Sierra Transit Authority. It is my understanding that they have discontinued the Monday bus from Walker to Bishop, and cut our Dial-A-Ride services by more than 50 percent. If you would like to know the plans and how they will affect you and your friends, please attend this meeting.
Relay For Life fundraiser
The Antelope Valley Survivors, our team in the Relay for Life, will be holding a Poker Night on Saturday, July 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Walker Community Center. The buy-in to play is $20, and there will be snacks provided, as well as the Lions Club holding a no-host bar. Tickets are available at 3 Flags Trading Post, Walker Country Store, Sierra Retreat Motel, and at the door that evening. This is such a worthwhile fundraiser, and if you like to play poker, it's a great way to combine giving and having fun, as well as polishing your poker skills without losing a bunch of money, and maybe winning your table's first prize. Also, if you would like to participate in the Relay on July 26, please contact Tammy at 495-2239 or Mariann at 495-2819.
Lion's Club installation
Mike and I were invited to be guests at the Lion's Club's installation dinner last Thursday at Topaz Lodge. It was a lot of fun to get together with all the Lions and their wives, and the dinner was absolutely great. The Lions do so much for our community that it was a pleasure to be there and find out who the officers are. Thanks to all of them for a lovely evening and for all they do for our community.
