Baseball: Washoe ends Hooligans season

The Carson Valley Hooligans saw their tournament come to an abrupt end Tuesday night in a 17-1 loss to Washoe.


Washoe put up nine runs in the first inning and cruised from there.


Carson Valley's Matt Jones drew a walk in the second inning and came around to score on a fielder's choice grounder from Brandon Bohan for the team's only run of the game.


Jacob Booher doubled and Andrew Bigham later singled and stole second but Carson Valley couldn't manage any more runs.


Matt Wasser made a number of outstanding catches in the outfield as well.


Carson Valley's Taylor Souza went 9-for-16 in the tournament with four doubles while Jake Mariani batted .462 and Joey Swisher batted .454.


Joe Almeida hit in four of the five games of the tournament with a double and a home run and Jones and Cameron Fricke each had multiple-hit games.


Jerad Morgan reached base safely in all three of his plate appearances before injuring his arm and also had outstanding play in the outfield.


Brennen Collins and Dustin Plante had a number of solid relief appearances for the team and Souza, Swisher and Ky Gemmill were standouts in the infield.
