'Goonies' free movie in the park
The Town of Gardnerville's Movies in the Park opens with "The Goonies" at dusk tonight in Heritage Park, one block east of Highway 395 off Gilman Avenue. Starring Sean Astin and Josh Brolin, "The Goonies" is about seven young friends who discover a pirate's treasure map.
Vendors at the event include the Carson Valley Lions Club, Boy Scout Troop 411, Papa Murphy's Take N Bake Pizza, Coldstone Creamery, Subway and Little Jimmy's Italian Ice.
Museum swap meet Saturday
The Douglas County Historical Society's next swap meet is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.
The more swap meets are planned for July 12, July 26, Aug. 9, Aug. 23, Sept. 13 and Sept. 27.

Artists open studios for art tour
Visit working artists' studios, June 27-29, during the free Carson Valley Open Studios Art Tour 2008, part of the Magiko summer celebration.
The tour begins with a reception 5-7 p.m. tonight at the Stodick Estates Model Homes on Macenna Lane in Gardnerville and continues 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The tour allows visitors to meet artists in their workspaces, view and purchase artworks directly from the artists. Maps distributed at the reception and during the tour.

Car wash benefits Relay for Life
The Relay for Life team will be having a car wash, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Northwest Martial Arts, 1321 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Johnson Lane bike parade Sunday
Participants and spectators are needed for the Independence Day Bike Parade that begins at the Johnson Lane General Store at 5 p.m. Sunday and continues to a barbecue at the Johnson Lane Fire Station.
Cost for hot dogs, soda and chips is $3. No motorized vehicles and children must wear helmets. Prizes for best decorated bikes. Expect a visit from the Douglas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse.

Drum workshops begin Wednesday
Beginning West African Djembe drumming workshops with Liz Broscoe at 6:30-8 p.m. are July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Drums available for rent if needed. Cost is $100 for all five classes.
