Movies in the Park begins tonight
The Town of Gardnerville's Movies in the Park opens with "The Goonies" at dusk tonight in Heritage Park.
Movies continue with "E.T." on July 18, the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra entertaining with show tunes before the classic movie "Citizen Kane" on Aug. 15 and Disney's "Meet the Robinsons" on Sept. 5.

Acoustic jam
at Eddy Street Book Exchange
Local musicians are invited for an acoustic jam, 2:30 - 5 p.m. Sunday at the Eddy Street Book Exchange. Musicians of any acoustic instrument of any level of experience or those who don't play but want to sing along are welcome. Tickets available for jamboree
David John and the Comstock Cowboys, the Saddle Tramps, Macho Jonny and Roaddaddy are the bands performing at the Carson Valley Jamboree presented by the Austin Kirby Foundation, noon to 8 p.m. July 20 on the Park Cattle property at Highway 395 and Muller Lane. Event includes tri-tip sandwiches, hot dogs, Indian tacos, crafts, car show and raffles. Tickets for the Austin House fundraiser are $20 for adults and $5 for children under 12 and are available at www.cvjamboree.org.

Carson Valley Inn entertainment
Rolland Dempsey appears through Sunday and various duos entertain on Monday nights. Cabaret Lounge entertainment is presented with no cover and no minimum in 45-minute shows at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.
Rolland Dempsey and his band play a mix of R&B, soul and contemporary pop music. Dempsey provides vocals and congas, Joel Edwards is on sax, Gary Douglas is on bass and vocals, Kevin Tokarz sings and plays keyboards and Brian Jenkins is on drums.
M8trix takes the Cabaret Lounge stage Tuesday and plays until July 6. M8trix performs the best of '70s, '80s, '90s Motown, R&B, pop andjazz, Latin and disco. The band is lead by vocalist Stephanya and is rounded out with guitarist Mark Daniels, Michael Harper on bass, drummer Adam Lipsky and Moogie Clemon on keyboards.

Strickland, who's been called the world's fastest song writer by Lacy J. Dalton, lives in Virginia Highlands and plays dates with Dalton at Piper's Opera House. He's played at the Silver Dollar Saloon, the Bucket of Blood Saloon, sings classic country, outlaw country, Sinatra, Stevie Ray Vaughn and is known for his Johnny Cash tribute.
