Picture-perfect weather and cold temperatures boosted the Douglas High skiers

to a strong finish at the NIAA State Championships Saturday at Mt. Rose.

Sophomore Hillary Sapp skied to a fifth-place finish in the giant slalom and fellow sophomore Crystal Rutledge took seventh.

Combining those results with last week's state championship slalom race, the duo managed to take two of the top five spots overall in the state.

Rutledge's fifth-place finish last week pushed her two-race total to 190 -- good enough for fourth -- while Sapp finished with a total of 188 points to take fifth.

Truckee's Michelle Delmuya and Shanon Horn, both seniors, tied for the overall title with 198 points. South Tahoe's Joleen Ferguson took third.
