Valley Friendship Circle, our local women's interdenominational fellowship, is in the process of making their 55th prayer quilt. They lovingly make these quilts and give them to members of the community who are facing surgery or fighting illnesses. If you are interested in joining with these giving ladies, you can call (530) 495-2213. They are really appreciated for all the heartwarming gifts they have given.
Regional planning
advisory committee
The regular monthly meeting of this group is 7 p.m. Thursday at the Walker Community Center. You are invited to come and help with the planning of our area's future.
High school basketball
Last Saturday evening, the Coleville High School's boys' basketball team played members of the Mono County Sheriff's Department. This year, the boys won by a comfortable margin, and I'm sure that's a win they'll enjoy for a while.
Daylight-saving time
Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour when you go to bed this Saturday for the start of daylight-saving time. It is earlier than in the past, but maybe that will bring spring-like weather to us sooner. I won't know how to act when it's still dark at 7 a.m., but we'll get to those longer sunny hours soon.
Fishing derby
A Wellington resident holds first place so far in the Topaz Fishing Derby, with the 6.1 pound rainbow trout caught recently. Get out there and get a bigger one.
Corned beef and cabbage dinner
Plan for March 15 for the Beta Sigma Phi annual dinner, which is always delicious. It will be at the Walker Community Center from 5-7 p.m.
Winter illnesses
I was a diligent person and had my flu shot for this year, as I usually do. Then five days ago, I became really ill, with all the ugly manifestations. I assumed it was the strain of flu that they have said is so immune to this year's vaccine. Much to my surprise and pleasure, it was diagnosed as a gastrointestinal ailment. That was good, but it still took me a good four days to get back close to normal. Please be careful and be sure to see your doctor if you have any flu-like symptoms.
