A Carson City man remained hospitalized Tuesday after he was apparently locked for four days in a storage unit at his apartment complex.

Police were called out to Saliman Road at about 11:45 p.m. Monday when Earl Scaggs' girlfriend found him dehydrated and locked inside the unit next door to her apartment, said Deputy Martha Tschetter in her report.

Tschetter said in her report that Scaggs' girlfriend, who'd reported him missing Sunday, was inside her apartment when she heard movement and someone calling her name from inside the storage unit. The girlfriend had last seen Scaggs on Friday.

Scaggs allegedly told police he didn't remember how he'd gotten locked in there, and that it was possible that he locked himself inside after a fight with his girlfriend. The deputy also noted in her report that the storage unit locked from the inside, "so there is no way a person could actually be locked into that closet."

According to the report, Scaggs was taken to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center where doctor's determined he was suffering from liver failure and covered in marks that would indicate he'd laid in one position for sometime. It's not known if dehydration contributed to the liver failure.

"The doctor reiterated that Earl's conditions was critical and life threatening, however he thought Earl should make it through," Tschetter wrote in her report.
