Reporter leaving for (much) greener pastures

After almost four years as government reporter for The Record-Courier I've put in my resignation, a difficult decision considering how much I love the business.

For me, working in journalism is both a privilege and an honor. It's in my blood now. The best thing about this job is the people, both in the office and outside of it.

I hope I've done some good during my time here.

I've been on this beat for almost four years and I'm told that's a record of sorts. The people in Douglas County are involved and that sometimes makes my job more challenging, but often makes it more fun.

It's been a pleasure, working with such an exuberant group and I will miss this valley and all the scrappy, independent, passionate and wonderful people I've come to know and respect.

I've been in the workforce since 1981 and my husband is telling me it's time to stop.

I've promised to take two or three months off, but after that I can't promise I won't be jumping into another newsroom.

I'm moving to a house on 10 acres in Gold Country just east of Plymouth, Calif.

It looks like an old mining town - empty store fronts, a post office, bar and a few restaurants. There's a small park on main street, the Sharkey Begovich Memorial Park.

So you see, I'm not really going very far. It's only a couple of hours away. I'll be back to check up.
