The one-day break at Douglas High School is over both in terms of the flood and the day off students enjoyed on Monday.
The school will reopen on Tuesday after completing clean-up and repairs resulting from the rupture of an 80-gallon hot water tank on Sunday, flooding the counseling area, front offices, and adjacent hallways in two to three inches of water.
The rupture forced the school to close on Monday..
"East Fork Fire District came in and did a fabulous job getting the water out of there," said Douglas County School District Superintendent Carol Lark. "Luckily there were staff working in the building on Sunday."
Lark said the water's been cleaned up, the tank is in the process of being replaced, and that school would resume on Tuesday.
"I'm thankful it had nothing to do with a student," said Lark. "I think this speaks very clearly of our need to fund maintenance for these old buildings."
