About 600 rainbow trout, 8 to 10 inches long, will be stocked in the Martin Slough Pond in downtown Gardnerville on Tuesday, according to Pat Sollberger, staff fisheries biologist with the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
"It's a new pond, and we want to make sure that the amount of fish will survive and adjust to the water before we stock more," said Sollberger.
The pond, located off Gilman Avenue in Heritage Park, would be a put-and-take, urban fishery.
"The pond is not designed to have a self-sustaining trout population," said Sollberger. "We need anglers. Future stocking will depend on how many people show up to fish and the kind of fishing pressure the pond receives."
