Heading into the year, one of the Douglas boys' golf team's primary goals was to qualify for regionals as a team.
The Tigers are certainly off to a great start.
Douglas won the Sierra League tournament at Rosewood Lakes Tuesday, edging out Carson by four strokes on an exceptionally windy day.
Sophomore Thomas Wicker won individual medalist honors by shooting a 77.
"It was great to see Thomas have such a good round in the conditions," Douglas coach Brent Eddy said. "He was the only person to score in the 70s."
Wooster's Bobby McCracken took second with an 80.
Douglas finished with a team score of 442, Carson took second at 446, Damonte Ranch had a 449 and South Tahoe rounded out the top four with a 458.
"It was great to start the season with a first-place finish," Eddy said.
Also for Douglas, junior Eric Guzman shot an 89, Andrew Lococo shot a 90, Cody Hines shot a 92 and senior Troy Shields shot a 94.
"Guzman, Hines and Lococo had great back sides coming back with scores in the low 40s to help the team finish on top," Eddy said. "I was extremely proud of the boys and how they competed today.
"It's fun to have kids that love the competition and that have a drive to want to be on top."
Douglas' next tournament is Monday at Wolf Run.
