The 19th annual Kids' Fishing Derby is set for May 31 and June 1 at Lampe Park in Gardnerville.
Open registration begins on April 1 at the Douglas Parks & Recreation Department located at 1327 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.
Tickets are free, but pre-registration is required. May 28 will be the last day of registration.
Area schools will be distributing a registration form in the "peechees" that went home on Thursday.

There are seven sessions available during the two-day event, including 8 to 9:30 a.m. both days, 10 to 11:30 a.m. both days, 12:30 to 2 p.m. both days, and a special needs session on May 31 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

All Volunteers must be pre-registered by May 28 and must attend one of the volunteer meetings.
These meetings are at Lampe Park (in the Pavilion) on May 17 at 9 a.m., and Wednesday, May 28 at 6 p.m.
Volunteers must be 13 and older. They help with everything from setting up the park prior to the derby, helping plant the fish in the stream, serving refreshments, weighing fish, cleaning fish, removing hooks from the fish and distributing loaner poles to any children who do not have one available. More than 300 volunteers are needed to make it a successful and fun derby for all.
