With 139 days left until the 2008 primary election, 30,692 people are registered to vote in Douglas County. That number includes 16,175 Republicans, 8,795 Democrats and 5,722 folks registered as non-partisan or members of the smaller parties. The percentage of Democrats took a little bounce up because they let people register to participate in the caucus. Look for that to drop down to its more traditional 1/3 as people begin to change back. Candidate filing for district judge is closed. Filing for all other offices is May 5-16. The primary is Aug. 12.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory through 10 p.m. today. Expect southwest winds of 15-30 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph. Areas prone to wind will see gusts of up to 65 mph before the die down this evening.

The wind gauge at Meneley Elementary School in the Gardnerville Ranchos has recorded a peak gust of 40 mph for last night and one of 39 mph early this morning. The temperatures are still warm at 45 degrees in the Ranchos and Minden.

Whatever moisture was supposed to happen today has evaporated from the forecast. Now we're looking at Friday and the weekend for a slight chance of snow or rain.
