Douglas County deputies have reported their assignment at Zephyr Cove Elementary School and Whittell High School complete as of 4 p.m. today.
At one point more than 50 law enforcement officers responded to an 11:30 p.m. call of a man in black carrying what appeared to be a rifle in the rocks above the schools.
Deputies arrived shortly after the report and searched both the schools and the place where the gunman was last seen, a popular jogging trail, without finding the man.
The schools remained on lockdown until it was time for the students to go home. Officers checked vehicles as they left school and then allowed parents up to collect those students who didn't ride the bus home.
No one was armed and no shots were fired during the incident. According to the initial report, the man did not point what he was carrying at anyone.
