A 40-year-old Carson City woman was killed Sunday when her all-terrain vehicle rolled over on top of her.
Aleta Black was riding on Alpine Mine Crater Wash Road about a mile north of Highway 88 at 10:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.
California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Gartner said Black's companion didn't have cell phone reception and had drive back to Highway 88 to flag down authorities.
A highway patrol officer called for medical help, but it was too late to save her.
"She was pronounced dead at the scene," he said. "This was the first road fatality of the year."
