The ashes of 8-year Gardnerville resident Madge B. Elliott, 88, will be scattered in mid-June. Mrs. Elliott died April 3, 2008.

Born Dec. 27, 1919, in Oklahoma to George Newton and Mary Julian Bess, she previously lived in Titusville, Fla., where she was a homemaker. She was an avid gardener and loved to fish.

Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by husband Lee Elliott; son James Cheatham and brother Henry Bess.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Kelvin and Greta Cheatham; daughter and son-in-law Jane and Joe Oden; daughter Karen Cheatham and 14 grandchildren.

Cremation took palce at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Carson Valley is in charge of arrangements.

A funeral service for Derrick Alan Rieser, 26, is 11 a.m. Friday, at Bridgeport Memorial Hall in Bridgeport. Visitation will precede the service starting at 10 a.m. Burial will follow the service at the Bridgeport Cemetery.

Mr. Rieser died May 2, 2008 in Gardnerville. Born Aug. 18, 1981 in Columbus, Ohio, to Robert and Diane Rieser, he moved to Gardnerville in 2001 from Bridgeport. Mr. Reiser graduated from Coleville High School in 1999.

He worked as a framer in the residential construction industry. In his spare time, he liked to play basketball, fish and to travel.

Mr. Rieser is survived by his father, Robert Rieser of Columbus; his mother, Diane Rieser of Bridgeport; three brothers, Dustin Rieser of Columbus, Warren Barr of Bishop and Ryan Barr of North Dakota; two sisters, Dana Christensen and Danielle Christensen both of Gardnerville.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley has been entrusted with arrangements.

Longtime Minden businessman and 34-year Carson Valley resident Doyle H. Whipple, 86, will be buried at Genoa Cemetery. Mr. Whipple died April 7, 2008, at his home in Gardnerville.

Born Sept. 9, 1921, in San Bonito, Texas, to Henry and Daisy Whipple, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Rosa Whipple in Perth, Australia in 1943.

After the Navy, he served in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office from 1948 to 1974. He came to Carson Valley in 1978 and founded Whipple Electric & Security. Mr. Whipple is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Doyle Jr. and Shari Whipple; grandsons Matt and Will Whipple; granddaughter Brandi Souderlund.
