Today is the last day to file for elected office in Douglas County.
As of Thursday afternoon, races have developed over two school board seats, the Gardnerville Town Board and both of the county's largest improvement districts.
With the filing of Gardnerville Democrat Jill Derby on Tuesday against Rep. Dean Heller, the race for U.S. Congress will be a repeat of last year's.
It won't be the only repeat. Douglas County Planning Commissioner JoEtta Brown filed against Assemblyman James Settelmeyer in District 39 on Wednesday, which covers Douglas County and parts of Carson City and Washoe County.
So far, no Democrats or third Republicans have filed in the three county commission races. Should no one file for the seats today, those races would be decided in September.
A primary for Douglas County School Board Area 1 evaporated on Wednesday when candidate Dianne Humble-Fournier changed her filing to Indian Hills General Improvement District. Both Humble-Fournier and candidate Art Baer served on the improvement district board four years ago.
Area 1 incumbent Karen Chessell is facing former Indian Hills General Improvement District member Charles Swanson.
Area 3 School Board incumbent Cindy Trigg faces a challenge from Tahoe resident Greg Felton. Felton has been outspoken in his criticism of the board's handling of the closing of Kingsbury Middle School and radon at Zephyr Cove Elementary School.
Incumbents Teri Jamin, and Thomas H. Moore filed for Areas 5 and 6. Retiring teacher Randy Green is so far unopposed for Area 4.
