About 50 classic cars participate in Saturday's Valley Cruisers Rockathon at Heritage Park in Gardnerville.

Jim Allen said the show attracted mostly Douglas County participants, with a few from Carson City and other places.

"It is just a fun little get-together," Allen said. "There's no formal judging. All the judges are members of local charities. There is no criteria, they just pick the cars they like."

Sponsored by the Valley Crusiers and the Town of Gardnerville, the event features a disc jockey playing music through the day.

Allen said this year the folks selling hot dogs were raising money for Stella Baldauskas, 24, a 2002 Douglas High School graduate who broke her back March 10 in an off-road vehicle accident near Las Vegas.

"They made pretty good money on the hot dogs," Allen said.

It wasn't all about the cars this year, as the members of the Western Nevada Antique Power Club turned out with some of their tractors.

Both the Cruisers and the tractors club members held a swap meet.

"We had 15-20 vendors," Allen said. "We've held this event every May for about three years now and it seems to be getting bigger and better all the time."

Cruisers Vice President Karen Allen thanked the judges for participating in the event.
