The R-C Morning Report

Thundershowers brought with them a little bit of rain on Tuesday night. The Weather Service radar showed about half an inch falling in west Carson while northern Douglas County ran from a tenth of an inch to trace amounts. The highest winds hit the foothills at about 4:44 p.m. with a 52 mph gust recorded. A weather spotter in South Lake Tahoe reported a quarter-inch of hail for about 3 minutes around 9:25 p.m.

Firefighters were jumping on Tuesday afternoon as the winds were cooking. Three fires, including a half-acre one at Vicky and Stephanie, a manure pile fire not far from there and a fire down by the river in Genoa were called out in short succession. All the fires were put out, but I swear a smelled smoke last night during the rain storm. Hopefully we don't have a forest fire smoldering out there somewhere.

A California man is up for the job of principal of Gardnerville Elementary School. Shannon Brown is the principal of Westside Elementary School in Rio Linda, Calif. Douglas County School Board members will be asked to approve Brown's appointment at their meeting 3:30 p.m. today at Douglas High School in Minden. Rio Linda is located in northern Sacramento County.
