Volunteers from GE Energy will be working on the Copeland Lumber Building on Saturday as part of their Global Community Day Project. The Copeland building is being converted into a multipurpose performing arts center by the Carson Valley Arts Council.
Members of both groups are asking for the donation of materials to help complete the project, including cans of interior and exterior latex paint, rolls of plastic sheeting, plastic drop cloths, paint roller covers and painter's tape.
Materials may be dropped off at the GE building at 1631 Bently Parkway South in Minden during regular business hours.
The Carson Valley Trails Association will celebrate National Trails Day 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. June 8, with an organized hike and trail building at the Faye-Luther Trailhead on Foothill Road in Gardnerville.
The organized hike will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 11 a.m.. Hikers will learn about the flora and fauna found near the trail. The hike is easy. Hikers should bring water. No prior sign-up is required for hikers.
Trail building will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 2:30 p.m. Trail builders should bring water and lunch, wear long-sleeved shirt, longs pants and bring gloves. Hardhats and tools will be provided. Trail builders must contact Phil Brisack before the event at 775-265-7264.
In case of rain the event will be canceled.
