Rescue personnel are on the scene of a fatal accident at Highway 395 and Leviathan Mine Road.
Douglas County Undersheriff Paul Howell confirmed that two people were dead.
The accident was reported at 4:45 p.m.
He said the accident originally was reported as a head-on, but officers on the scene said it could have been a T-bone accident in that a driver pulled into the path of a motorist on Highway 395.
The accident occurred between Leviathan Mine and China Spring roads.
Personnel on scene were awaiting the arrival of a helicopter to take at least one injured to Reno for treatment.
The northbound lane of Highwway 395 is shut down.
Law enforcement personnel anticipate the highway closed to at least one lane while the accident is investigated.
