The 27th edition of The Carson Valley Almanac takes an agrarian turn this year whether dealing with home gardens and ranches or the traditions that distinguish the Valley as a place to live.

Copies of the Almanac are inside today's edition for our subscribers. They are also available at our office, located at 1503 Highway 395, Suite G.

On the agricultural front, writer Sharlene Irete talks to Valley gardeners while reporter Scott Neuffer interviews Andy Aldax about growing crops in Carson Valley.

Writer Christina Nelson looks at a popular Valley pastime, working with dogs and writer Sheila Gardner goes in depth in an examination of a nearly 90-year old Genoa tradition in Candy Dance.

Sports Editor Joey Crandall examines the history of a Carson Valley landmark, the "D" which also names the hill below Kingsbury Grade, and takes a look back at the high school's first home track meet in more than a decade.

Editor Kurt Hildebrand interviews Valley native Clarence Godecke, who was born on his grandfather's ranch off Mottsville Lane.

Godecke was working for the Minden Butter Manufacturer when World War II broke out and on his 21st birthday enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he became a B-17 pilot. Within two years of joining the service, he was flying missions over Africa and Italy.

Photographer Shannon Litz shot most of the pictures for this year's edition.
