Four Douglas High School students and one alternate have been selected to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp this summer. The students are Megan Michitarian, Jessica Waggoner, Eric Guzman and Jon Gilkerson. Chloe Trudell is an alternate.
One of the goals in Rotary is to help young people develop their leadership abilities and self-confidence to the fullest. To accomplish that goal, Rotary clubs prepare thousands of young leaders through Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) programs each year. RYLA events are organized by Rotarians who are business and professional achievers. RYLA Camp is at the Grizzly Creek Ranch located outside of Portola, Calif.
Students between their junior and senior years in high school will gain exposure to issues and be able to exchange ideas, explore career paths, learn how to arrange youth activities and community projects, discover how to resolve family, social and professional conflicts and participate in character building projects.
