The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department kicks off its 12th annual Family Summer Concert Series 6:30 p.m. tonight at Minden Park. Bring a low back chair and a picnic dinner and enjoy an evening of music with family and friends.

The performance of Alice Stuart and the Formerlys is sponsored by the Carson Valley Inn and co-sponsored by Stockdale Creative.

As a pioneer in rock and blues, Stuart blazed the trail for women in rock and roll as one of the few females in the country to write her own music, front a male band and play lead guitar on national and international circuits during the 1970s.

Her trademark blues sound was inspiration for many who followed, most noticeably Bonnie Raitt. Blues Hall of Fame inductee Dice Waterman said, "There would be no Bonnie Raitt without Alice Stuart," and according to Taj Mahal, "Alice cut the road that Bonnie traveled."

The concerts are free of charge thanks to sponsorship of the following businesses and organizations: A.C. Christian Construction, Accurate Mobile Locksmith, Inc.; Brooke, Shaw, Zumpft, Attorneys at Law; Buffalo Creek Ranch, Carson Valley Inn; Carson Valley Accounting; Country Financial, Rhonda Moore; Country Financial, Sean Marler; Danny's Ironwood Grill; Dick's Fuller O'Brien Paints; El Dorado Savings Bank; GE Energy; M.
