Carson Valley Inn entertainment

Power Play appears through Sunday and various duos entertain on Monday nights. Cabaret Lounge entertainment is presented with no cover and no minimum in 45-minute shows at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.

Power Play is Sean and Cindy South performing classic rock, pop and country tunes of the '70s and '80s. Sean plays electric guitar, Cindy plays keyboards and acoustic guitar and both perform on vocals.

The Red Hot Smokin' Aces take the Cabaret Lounge stage Tuesday and play until Nov. 16. The Red Hot Smokin' Aces play country and oldies to pop chart hits " from Gretchen Wilson to Stevie Wonder and Merle Haggard to Roy Orbison. The heart of band is father/daughter Jeffrey and Ileia who collectively have toured the northwest for more than 40 years.

n Monday Night Football features sports viewing on giant plasma screens, draft beer and snack specials and drawings for prizes.

Rhymers Rodeer returns to CVI

Cowboy poetry and some old-time cowboy piano tunes will be featured at the 21st Annual Rhymers Rodeer in the Carson Valley Inn's Shannon Ballroom today and Saturday.

The event features a cocktail show, an open mic session and a dinner show. Performers include poets Jim and Karen Ross, Jim King and Ross Knox and Dave Bourne on piano. Shows will be hosted and emceed by McAvoy Layne in the character of Mark Twain.

Today's show is $25 with no-host cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's show is $50 with no-host cocktails at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:15 p.m. and show at 7:45 p.m. An open mic session is 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. All performances are non-smoking.

What's smokin' at Jimmy G's

n AMFM Reno plays, 8:30 p.m. Saturday, at Jimmy G's Smokin' Hot Cigar Bar. Carson City-based AMFM Reno plays classic rock and oldies to modern alternative " everything from Chuck Berry to Buckcherry. The band is Al Reed on rhythm guitar and vocals, Bob Skaggs on lead guitar and vocals, Johnny Badd on drums and vocals and 1996 Douglas High grad Bill Allen on bass guitar and vocals.
