Busy day at Walker Community Center

This Saturday, Nov. 15, will be a very special day at the Walker Community Center.

First, will be a memorial service for Bob Dayhoff, owner of the Andruss Motel, who recently passed away. The service will begin at 11 a.m.

That evening, beginning at 5:30 p.m. will be a benefit for local resident Chris Baker, who is suffering from multiple types of cancer and undergoing the invasive treatment and high medical costs for them. There will be raffles, auctions, and a delicious dinner. Dinner will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. The evening will be for such a good cause, you won't want to miss it.

Women's Club Bazaar

Saturday, the Antelope Valley Women's Club hosted their annual fundraising bazaar, with local craftsmen and vendors there. The items available were of a very high quality and well worth the cost. They also had a bake sale and dinner of turkey or roast beef with all the trimmings. I know how hard the ladies worked to put this event on, and it was really worth attending.

Local sports

The Coleville High School Wolves totally defeated Wells in the first game of the Division 1A football playoffs last Saturday. The final score was 80-58, with Jason Peters, Emmi Sandoval, and all of the other players doing their usual outstanding job. Keep on, guys! Their next game will be in Southern Nevada, I believe against Pahranagat Valley. Just keep them in your thoughts for success.

Unfortunately, the girls' volleyball team lost the second game of their tournament to Whittell. They still had a great season, and we congratulate them.

The middle school boys' basketball team got started this Monday against Bridgeport, but since it was after my deadline, I can't report a score. Their next game is today at Smith Valley, but Thursday, they are scheduled to play Hawthorne at Coleville at 3 p.m. I want to get out and watch the kids at work.

Big week for Marines and all military

Monday of this week was a very special day to my husband, Mike, and many other of our friends and family. It was the Marine Corps birthday.

To celebrate, we went to Lee and Nancy Sims' home to have birthday cake for the occasion. Tuesday was Veterans Day, with the usual celebration at the Coleville Cemetery. It is always impressive, with the color guard from the Marine base, as well as our local veterans celebrating the day.

We all should remember their sacrifices and appreciate them.
