The results of the 2008 election become official at 1 p.m. today when Douglas County commissioners meet to canvass the vote. But don't blink, because only 10 minutes has been allotted for the meeting. Unless something catastrophic happens, both the results of the election and the vote on the school bond are expected to be confirmed.

A special use permit to allow construction of a 30,000 square foot church along Centerville Lane in the Gardnerville Ranchos was denied by planning commissioners after neighbors turned out to oppose it. Valley Christian Fellowship was looking for the permit on property owned by Holstein Farms.

Looks like fair weather ahead for the next few days, including the weekend. The high today is supposed to reach 66 degrees under mostly sunny skies. The lows are supposed to stay above freezing for a bit.
