Four hurt in Pine Nut wreck

Four people were hurt and Highway 395 through the Pine Nut Mountains was shut down for about two hours on Monday afternoon after a vehicle accident.

The accident occurred eight miles south of Gardnerville at about 3:45 p.m. on the hill south of the intersection with Ray May Way.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup driven by George J. Coushman, 68, was southbound on Highway 395 behind a 1991 Jeep Cherokee driven by Pine Nut resident Kathleen Alexander, 20.

Alexander slowed to make a right turn into her driveway when Coushman collided with the rear of her vehicle.

Alexander and a passenger, Rebecca Alexander, 61, were flown to Renown Medical Center by helicopter ambulance with serious injuries.

A third passenger in the Jeep, Rebecca Alexander-Lowe, 22, and Coushman were taken to Carson Valley Medical Center by East Fork ambulance.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Coushman was cited for failure to use due care.
