The R-C Morning Report

Douglas County School board members are meeting at 3 p.m. this afternoon to discuss budget cuts for 2009-2010, and there's no one who thinks the picture is going to be particularly glowing. Back in September, school officials were predicting the state would be cutting money to support Douglas schools by 14 percent. With the bad news coming out of Washoe, that may not be enough. Board members are meeting at the high school.

It shouldn't be any surprise that fees for county parks are going up. On Thursday, Douglas County commissioners had an item on their agenda to raise the fees at Topaz Lake Park, among other places. We'll be tracking that down today.

One thing that will be sunny today is the weather through the weekend, but look for it to change a bit as Thanksgiving nears. The National Weather Service is calling for a slight chance of rain on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day. We'll see. For today the weather will be sunny with a high temperature of 61 degrees. Expect the same through Monday.

I'm taking Thanksgiving week off. All of it. Joey Crandall will take charge of the morning report in my absence, since I won't be checking phone messages or e-mails for an entire blessed week. That's my goal anyway. I'm sure the staff will set up a pool on how long it takes me to start kibitzing from home. Put me down for Wednesday.
