In response to Mr. O'Neill, is Sarah Palin ready for the No. 2 spot in our government? Well, let's see. She was the mayor of a small town in the suburbs of Anchorage, Alaska for 4 years and then she was elected governor of Alaska two years ago. That does sound like a small amount of training to be the vice president of the United States of America when you sit back and look at it doesn't it.
Saturday was the exciting Nevada Day Parade in Carson City and the 144th anniversary of Nevada's statehood. There are a lot of street rods here in Fish Springs but one in particular belongs to our good neighbors Kathie and Bill Hudson. This cool car, the Hudson, even has their name! Along with Gary Hegarty, they've been working on a 1950 Hudson Pacemaker for about four years now, and they were anxious to drive it in the Nevada Day Parade.

Domestic violence is part of a continuing cycle that is difficult to break. In fact, statistics show that women will suffer through seven abusive situations, before finally breaking free. More often than not, women who attend a support group doubt their own judgment, wonder whether they are going crazy, or even feel as if they imagined the whole situation, even though the emotional and physical pain is real.

One can't blame Realtors, builders, and housing industry suppliers for enjoying their prosperity during the recent protracted housing bubble. Unfortunately their wish for a resumption of the good years as just around the corner, asserted in a guest opinion "County must be ready to revive itself," is equivalent to faith in the tooth fairy.

Redemption is the fundamental message of Gospel good news. Such words as deliverance, salvation, emancipation and recovery are words with similar meaning. To understand why redemption is the heart of the Gospel, we need to know the history of man as described in the first three chapters of Genesis. There we learn that God created man as his own image for the purpose of having companionship and fellowship with Him.
Our deepest sympathy goes to Tina Daniels whose husband Jerry was injured in an accident and died on Oct. 16. Many people living in Fish Springs called Jerry Daniels "the cowboy of Fish Springs." Citizens of Douglas County, the kids of this county find themselves facing a tough time. They find themselves watching and hoping from the sidelines as the adults of this county carry the ball for them by deciding public policy that will have a major effect on their lives. As the debate goes on as to whether voters should or should not approve the continuation bond, many people have come forward to give their opinions on the issue. I find myself compelled to add my opinion as well.

Last week a couple of young missionary gentlemen showed up at our door. I am not sure how we got on the subject, but I think it was that our daughter Jenee tattled on me. The Douglas County Historical Society invites all ghost hunters and history buffs for a spirited adventure into Carson Valley's haunted past during Haunted Weekend, Friday through Sunday.
When candidates speak to the public prior to elections, one of the first questions out of their mouths is "are you better off today than you were two or four years ago?" That's a pretty easy question for most residents of Douglas County to answer. And, although the answer cannot be exclusively tied to the housing and building downturn, it certainly is the primary factor in our county.
The Douglas County Public Library in Minden presents spooky stories and poems as read by Tilly the Witch, alias Library Services Coordinator Carol Nageotte, at 6 p.m. Oct. 27.
"When my dad gets mad, he turns into the Incredible Hulk," a child said when he described the transformation that takes place when his father is no longer able to control his temper. For this child, his father is not seen as a superhero, but instead as a big, green, scary monster. This is the face of domestic violence in Douglas County today.
With the Douglas girls' golf team wrapping up its second-straight regional title last week, I got to thinking (as I tend to do) about where that acheivement ranked among the other sports programs at the school. Really, what are the best dynasties to reign at Douglas since the school opened in 1909?
Douglas High sophomore standout Amelia Ritger put the finishing touches on her second consecutive perfect season in Northern Nevada play, winning her second Northern 4A Regional title Saturday.
When a scoreboard reads 49-6 in your favor, that normally tells the whole story.
Douglas' top seeds at the Northern 4A Regional Tennis Tournament advanced with little trouble to the second round on Thursday at Carson High School while Cesarina Ceglia, snubbed for a seed during the coaches' meeting this week, picked up an upset win to advance.
How do you see Jesus? What is your perception of his personality and his looks? I'm sure every person has thoughts about theses things in fact there's even a song that says, "Some children see Him lily white with tresses soft and fair. Some see Him bronzed and brown, with dark and heavy hair. Some, almond-eyed with skin of yellow hue. The children in each different place will see the baby Jesus face like theirs."
Last Sunday on our way to church five wild horses ran across old Windmill Road right in front of us. There was one small yearling that was especially beautiful. It was a dark brown color but had a blond mane and tail. What a treat it was to see them so close! And just a few minutes later, five deer, including two little ones, crossed the street in front of us near Orchard Road.

Many Douglas County residents, especially Sustainable Growth Initiative surrogates, would like us to believe that residential growth is the No. 1 issue impacting the upcoming election of county commissioners. You've probably never met local artist Lynne Marie Hanson, but you've probably seen her work. Hanson, a longtime resident of the area, died earlier this year, but she left her mark in many ways.
