Douglas County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post #2015 Cadets won top honors in several categories at competition in Paso Robles, Calif., Sept. 26-28.
The Ninth Annual Central Coast Law Enforcement Explorer Competition hosted more than 350 law enforcement Explorer cadets from 41 agencies in California and Nevada.
The competition tests physical and mental capabilities of competitors.
Explorer cadets competed in a variety of scenarios including felony suspect detainment and vehicle stops, driving under the influence investigations, vehicle searches, building searches, domestic violence investigations, interview and interrogation, emergency medical aid, and patrolling.
Cadets compete in individual and team physical agility tests.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Explorer cadets placed in the following categories:
n First, DUI investigation
n First, emergency medical aid
n Second, patrolling
n Third, building searches
n Fifth, oral Interview and Interrogation
The Douglas County cadets earned an overall ranking of third place in a competitive field of 41 law enforcement explorer teams, including teams from the Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol.
DCSO Explorer Cadet Matt Sampson won a laptop computer and a $500 academic scholarship for his outstanding performance.
