Douglas County enrollment down by 207 students

Douglas County schools lost 207 students this year, according to recent enrollment numbers.

The district enrolled 6,548 students, compared to 6,755 last year.

Carson Valley schools lost 171 students.

Every elementary school in the Valley lost students except Pinon Hills Elementary, which gained 24 students.

Carson Valley Middle School lost 31 students, Pau-Wa-Lu lost four, and Douglas High lost 94 students.

Lake schools lost 55 students. Some 132 students were displaced last year when Kingsbury Middle School was closed as part of the district's consolidation effort. But many of those students were absorbed into either Zephyr Cove Elementary, which gained 18 students, or Whittel High School, which gained 59.

Jacobsen High and alternative programs gained 20 students and lost one.
