A search crew was battling the weather today to examine the crash site where the aircraft Steve Fossett was last seen flying was discovered.
According a Madera County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman, high winds and the possibility of snow would halt the effort tonight.
Snow levels are expected to drop to 7,000 feet, 2,700 feet lower than where the 20-member search & rescue team is working along with three K9 teams.
Information officer Erica Stuart said the weather has been fierce and that some searchers have suffered wind burns.
In addition to the Madera County Sheriff's Department, searchers from Lyon and Mono counties are participating.
A bone fragment found at the crash site on Thursday has been taken to Fresno, Calif., to be examined by a laboratory to determine whether it is from a human.
The fragment is oval about an inch wide and 2.5 inches long.
