A Mass of Resurrection is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church for Gerald Robert Parkos who died Oct. 3, 2008, at his Gardnerville Ranchos residence of degenerative muscle disease. He was 74.
Mr. Parkos and his wife moved to the Gardnerville Ranchos in 1996 from San Jose, Calif.
He was born Nov. 6, 1933, in Faribault, Minn., to George Howard and Cecilia Marie Parkos.
He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in nuclear science and worked as a nuclear physicist for General Electric for 36 years before his retirement.
Mr. Parkos and his wife Carrol were married in 1955 and are the parents of six children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John.
Mr. Parkos was a devoted father and husband. He loved to read and was a fountain of knowledge about science and history.
He was a museum volunteer with Retired Senior Volunteer Program and a member of St. Gall Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and playing bridge.
He is survived by his wife and daughter Carolyn (Guido) Landolt of Gardnerville, daughter Cheryl (Lawrence) Bonaldi of Campbell, Calif., sons Charles (Nickie) Parkos of Norcross, Ga., Gerald (Margarita) Parkos II of Sacramento, Robert (Donna) Parkos of Chandler, Ariz., Stephen Parkos of Campbell, Calif.; brother William Parkos of Greeley, Colo., sisters Bonnita Petersen, Avondale, Ariz., Kay Kane, Bloomington, Minn.; grandchildren Gerald III, Phillip, Jesika, Nicholas, Sarah, Katelyn, Alexis, Cassandra, Michelle and Timmy Parkos, Cecilia Ristau and Louisa Landolt, two nieces and six nephews.
The Mass of Resurrection, with the Rev. Paul McCollum presiding, will be followed by a reception at the St. Gall Pastoral Center
A private burial is planned.

A celebration of the life of longtime Nevada resident Lucille Hyden Allerman is 4 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Spruce Street. Mrs. Allerman died Aug. 8, 2008, in Reno, just short of her 94th birthday.
Born on Sept. 1, 1914, in Chicago to Paul and Louise (Karge) Hyden the family moved to Carson City when Lucille was 5. Paul Hyden purchased the old Raycraft Stable located next to the Capitol on the corner of Carson and Musser streets and opened a General Motors dealership and garage.
Mrs. Allerman grew up in Carson City, knowing all the state and county officials. She graduated from Carson High and worked for the Federal Aviation Administration, that had offices in Carson City.
The family sold the garage and moved to Salt Lake City for a short time. They traveled back to Southern California, settling in the San Diego area, where they purchased several acres of lemons, oranges and avocado orchards. Mrs. Allerman worked for the San Diego County Welfare Department.
She returned to Carson City where she met her future husband Floyd Allerman at a Nevada Day dance. They married and moved to Escondido, Calif. They were the parents of Christy Allerman Dawson Nelson who died in August 2007.
Mrs. Allerman was preceded in death by her parents and husband and returned to Carson Valley and the Reno area to be near extended family.
She is survived by grandsons Sheldon, Spencer and Blaine Dawson.
