The McQueen girls' tennis team eliminated the Douglas Tigers from the team tennis playoffs Tuesday in Reno 12-6, although the score was much closer than it appeared.
"We were two points in a tiebreaker from going into the second round tied 3-3," Douglas coach Roger Rusmisel said. "We had a doubles team up 4-1 before they dropped their set. Cesarina (Ceglia) hurt her wrist in practice on Monday and played through two sets.
"She was obviously having pain in the second round in a match that she could have won if healthy. Sophie Lyles and Kat Merrill were also very close in the third round."
As it was, Douglas' points came from three Amelia Ritger wins, a pair of wins from Marissa Delgadillo and Niki Hamzik and one Ceglia win.
Ritger stretched her career record to 62-0 in Northern Nevada and 30-0 this season. She should enter next week's individual regional tournament as the top seed out of the Sierra League.
Ceglia will take Douglas' second singles spot and should be seeded as well.
Delgadillo and Hamzik also have a shot at a seed in the doubles bracket and Kat Merrill and Sophie Lyles will be Douglas' final entry in the individual tournament.
The Tigers wrapped up their team season with a 7-4 record overall.
