Douglas' top seeds at the Northern 4A Regional Tennis Tournament advanced with little trouble to the second round on Thursday at Carson High School while Cesarina Ceglia, snubbed for a seed during the coaches' meeting this week, picked up an upset win to advance.
No. 1 seed and defending regional champion Amelia Ritger breezed through her first-round matchup 6-0, 6-0 and James TenBroeck, seeded second in the boys' bracket advanced with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Ceglia, taking on the No. 6 seed out of the High Desert League, won her match 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 to advance.
Douglas' Andrew Solomon, who caught the bad break of drawing defending regional champ Jeff Mullen of Reno in the first round, lost 6-0, 6-0.
Play continues Friday and concludes Saturday in the tournament.
