Coming into the regular season finale at Fallon Saturday, the Douglas girls' soccer team knew it needed a win or a tie to clinch the Sierra League title.

Douglas put an exclamation point on the day, hammering the Greenwave net with 27 shots and walking away with a 7-1 win.

It is the Tigers' first league title since 2004 and the eighth in the program's history.

The win also boosted Douglas to a 17-1-2 record overall, which ties the school mark for second-most wins in a season (the 1999 team went 17-2-1). They are also within a win of tying the school mark for most wins in a season, which was set at 18 in

2002.

Senior Ally Freitas scored three goals against the Greenwave, boosting her career total to 48, which puts her at fifth on the school career lists, and her season total to 24, which is good for second all-time in both the 4A state and school lists.

Douglas also got a pair of goals from Alex Laing, freshman Katie Dry scored once and sophomore Kyra Barth scored once.

Senior Dany Heidt had two assists and CJ Baumgartner added another.

Douglas will take on the High Desert No. 4 seed, either Spanish Springs or McQueen, in the first round of the Northern 4A State Soccer Playoffs Saturday at Damonte Ranch at 4 p.m.

Galena finished up with the No. 2 seed in the Sierra and will take on either Spanish Springs or McQueen Saturday.

High Desert champion Reed gets Carson Saturday and High Desert No. 2 seed Elko gets South Tahoe.

This will be the 15th consecutive season the Lady Tigers have played in the playoffs.
