School will be out Friday for the Nevada Day holiday. Look out for treat-or-treaters on Halloween.

Harvest parties and Halloween parties are planned on Friday at several locations in Carson Valley:


The Trinity Lutheran Church Harvest Party is 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church, 1480 Douglas Ave. in Gardnerville.

The event features tractor trailer hay rides, live band, astro jump and prizes awarded for games. Hot dogs, beverages, popcorn and candy will be provided.

Calvary Chapel's Harvest Festival begins at 5 p.m. Friday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Pinenut Road. Suggested admission is two unopened bags of candy per family.

There will be cookie decorating, cake walk, live entertainment and free food, drinks, games and candy. Non-frightening costumes encouraged.

Trick or Treat Safety Street is 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Douglas County Engine Company between Fourth and Fifth streets in Minden.

Cost to enter safety street is $2 each, for which children get a raffle ticket for prizes including books, bicycles or a scooter. Children gather candy from booths set up by area businesses and organizations.

The Trunk or Treat event is 2-6 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 1311 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Children may dress in costumes and trick-or-treat at decorated cars in the church parking lot.

There will be games, pumpkin painting, a bounce house, hot dogs and drinks at this free event. Information, 782-5311.


Free admission to the Carson Valley Harvest Festival, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, at the Corley Ranch, 859 Highway 395, Gardnerville. The corn maze is open.
