Douglas County commissioners are to make appointments to Minden and Genoa town boards on Dec. 4 for four-year terms that begin in January.

Minden Town Board members are paid $500 a month, and Genoa board members serve without compensation.

Applicants must submit resumes and letters of interest to the Douglas County Human Resources Office by 4 p.m. Nov. 14.

With the exception of town residency requirements, the rules are similar for applicants to both boards:

- Douglas County resident 30 days prior to appointment;

- Registered to vote in Nevada;

- Qualified elector;

- Minden or Genoa resident;

- Minimum 18 years old;

- United States citizen.

Two vacancies on the Minden board were created when the secretary of state kicked incumbents Ray Wilson and Bruce Jacobsen off the ballot because of term limits. They were unopposed in their races, leaving no candidates on the Nov. 4 ballot.

In Genoa, only one candidate ran for two available seats, leaving a vacancy.

At the end of their four-year terms, the town board members will be required to file for election.

Both town boards will have an opportunity to make recommendations to the commissioners from the pool of applicants.
