Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department offers fall classes for children, youth and adults. Classes require preregistration. Information at the department office, 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, 782-9828.


Women's self-defense seminar. For ages 16 and older to learn safety basics and how to react defensively when attacked. Students will practice skills in scenarios against a padded assailant. Classes are 1-2:30 p.m. Nov. 1-15 at High Desert Martial Arts. Cost, $95.

Yoga focuses on the body, mind and spirit with concentration on control, stretching and breathing. Class is 9:30-11 a.m. or 7-8 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, Nov. 3-27 at the recreation annex, 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Cost, $40.


Ballroom Dance. Learn and practice the fundamentals of the fox trot, swing, waltz and Latin dances. Classes are Fridays, Nov. 14 to Dec. 12; 6-6:45 p.m. for ages 8-12, 2:45-3:45 p.m. for ages 13-18 and 7-8 p.m. for adults at the Dance Workshop, 1697 County Road in Minden. Cost is $45 per person for youth classes and $70 per couple for the adult class.


Scrapbooking Workshop. Bring photos along with albums, adhesives, papers and pens. Class is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 15 at Gardnerville Elementary School. Cost, $10.


Concealed weapon certification. This course exceeds Nevada state concealed weapon requirements. Class is 6-9:30 p.m. Nov. 12 and Nov. 14 at the Recreation Annex Building and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Douglas County Shooting Range. Cost, $90 plus $10 insurance fee.
