Staff Reports
The application deadline for federal historic preservation grants administered by the State Historic Preservation Office is Dec. 1.
Grants may be used to support building rehabilitation, historic preservation surveys and projects that promote heritage tourism in Nevada.
Grant funding is provided by the National Park Service as part of the Land and Water Conservation Fund and is used to support preservation efforts by governmental agencies and non-profit organizations. The restoration at Carson City's Stewart Indian School and survey work in southern Nevada are examples of projects that have previously received funding through this program.
Applicants should be aware that available funds for grant awards will be less than provided in previous years due to budget cuts.
For information about historic preservation grants or an application, contact the State Historic Preservation Office at www.NevadaCulture.org or (775) 684-3448.
The State Historic Preservation Office also administers grants from the Commission for Cultural Affairs used to support the rehabilitation of historic structures to be used as cultural centers.
Commission for Cultural Affairs grants help support more than 80 facilities in Nevada, including the Las Vegas Post Office, Reno's Riverside Hotel and Ely's Nevada Northern Railway complex.
Applications for Commission for Cultural Affairs grants will be reviewed March 2009.
The Historic Preservation Office is an agency of the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs and serves Nevada residents and visitors through cultural and information management, presentation and promotion of cultural resources, and education.
