Maple leaves turning red and golden dominated the Carson Valley Photo Club's monthly competition Oct. 23. It was a daily double for Minden amateur photographer Pat Stanley, who won first place and was elected club president for 2009.

Stanley took his winning photograph, "Fallen Leaves," on a trip to the north coast of California when he stopped on Highway 36 east of Fortuna to photograph colorful maple trees and a pile of golden leaves by the side of the road.

Second place went to Kathy Port whose photo, "The Changing," shows fall colors in Kansas City.

Wendy Francis was the third-place winner with "Red Autumn," a close-up of leaves against a blue sky background shot at Silver Lake, Calif.

During the monthly meeting, club member Tamyra Crossley presented a slide show of Romania, where she lived for several years.

"Patriotism" is the theme for the club's November photo contest. The next meeting of the Carson Valley Photo Club is 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. Next month's program will be presented by new club vice president Pam Brekas.

The photo club meets 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at the church.
