Today and Friday are the last days to cast your ballots early in the 2008 General Election. As of last night, 10,480 voters have been to the polls, more than a third of the county's total active voters. In all, 1,703 people voted on Wednesday, 803 of them in the Gardnerville Ranchos. That sounds like a single-day record for early voting to me. Today, polls will open in the Johnson Lane Volunteer Fire Station. Early voting wraps up at 3 p.m. Friday.
Remember to turn back your clock on Sunday, when Daylight Savings Time arrives. For some reason I was expecting it to be later in November, but we're all adapting to the new schedule.
The big storm is due to arrive today, according to the National Weather Service. Expect the wind to really pick up this afternoon as the front rolls in, with gusts of up to 30 mph. The chance of rain tonight will go up to 30 percent and just keep climbing after 11 p.m. The chance of rain drops off a little bit for trick or treating, and then picks right back up again in time for the Nevada Day Parade.
