At age 90, my mother-in-law Dorothy was the oldest living Monohan in the whole extended family. She liked to brag about that and about all her kids and grandkids, and great-grandkids and even one baby great-great grandchild. Dorothy died last week peacefully in her sleep and now my husband Norbert is the oldest living Monohan in our clan.

The month of August brought lots of fresh vegetables to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet from local gardeners. In addition, the farmers market at Lampe Park generously contributed produce. The fresh tomatoes, squash and zucchini were distributed with groceries to qualified individuals and families in need. We wish to thank all who contributed produce.

The Fish Springs volunteer firefighters put on a really great spaghetti dinner and dance Sept. 6. This was the 24th annual hoe-down dinner dance and it was certainly a fun one. The fire cadets and seasonal crews really helped the volunteer firefighters, especially in setting up all the tables and chairs. It was unusually crowded and about 400 dinners were served.
