Skunks make themselves known in Johnson Lane

How many skunks do you need to make a house really smelly? Just a phew.

We've had a skunk hanging around the neighborhood for four nights in a row. Let me tell you a skunk story from when I was a kid: My mother and father were both gone for a few hours in the evening so I was home alone with my two younger sisters. A skunk came into our garage to eat our dog Ginger's dry dog food. Apparently something made it spray, it was awful. I decided the best thing to do was to close up the whole house to try and keep the smell out. Not a good idea " our eyes were tearing up.

When my parents got home, they asked what happened and why would you lock the smell in the house instead of opening up all the windows and turning on the fan? I was only 12 and didn't know anything.

What happens if your dog gets sprayed? Here is a recipe I got from a friend: 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide, 1 cup of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of dish soap all mixed together and rubbed all over your dog and then bathe as usual. I guess you could double or triple the recipe depending on the size of your dog.

Parachute

It was last Sunday morning at 7:30 and I was driving down Johnson Lane when I heard an airplane. I was surprised to also see a person with a red parachute and a person with a blue parachute that seemed to be coming in for a landing near the airport. This must have been a very difficult jump because Sunday morning was really windy.

A coyote visitor

There's a German shepherd that frequently walks right down the middle of the road. I don't know where he lives but the other day something caught my eye. I thought it was him but when I turned around it was a young coyote as yellow as a golden retriever. I've never seen a more beautiful coyote. He didn't pay any attention to me in the front yard watering my flowers but kept walking through the neighbor's sagebrush. Maybe he was on a mission.

Got squash?

It's that time in the garden again when I have too much squash and not enough friends. I am tired of it already but I am wondering if any of you have a great way to prepare so it doesn't taste like squash. Give me a call " I'd like to find a new way to cook it. Thanks.

Prayer request

Please say a prayer tomorrow at 10 a.m. My mom, Linda Monohan, is going in the hospital for a procedure. Please pray the surgeon does a great job. Love you, Mom.
