The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is issuing a new license plate Sept. 15 recognizing search and rescue volunteers.
The license plate will have the words "Search and Rescue," and a picture of a search and rescue member rappelling with a rescue litter from a precipice via a tethered rope.
It will include the search and rescue logo and motto, "So that others may live."
The plates can be purchased by anyone.
Search and rescue units are the designated emergency service organizations in each county, including Douglas County, to search for persons lost or in distress throughout rural Nevada, and rescue or provide contingency emergency medical aid.
Nevada search and rescue units consist of volunteers who respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Search and rescue volunteers receive no pay or compensation. Members are required to supply their own personal packs with all the necessary equipment for survival in the back country.
A portion of the revenue generated from the sale and registration of the license plates will go to Nevada search and rescue units.
The plates can be purchased in the Minden DMV office on County Road near Highway 88.
